Waihi Gold Discovery Centre
The town of Waihi is New Zealand’s “heart of gold” – the site of a huge mine that was once one of the most productive in the world.
Story Inc has created the exhibition concepts for a new Gold Discovery Centre on the edge of the current open cast mine. It is hoped that the centre will open in 2012. Part of Waihi’s transformation from mining town to tourist destination, it will tell both the scientific stories of gold and the tales of endeavour, innovation and conflict associated with it.
